Factory owners can therefore significantly reduce the overhead of operator training, as users can quickly become very familiar with the actions necessary to invoke, control, remedy and terminate a wide range of processes, regardless of the complexity of the process itself.

Equipment utilisation can also be enhanced, as touchscreens allow illegal or bad commands to be barred very easily and effectively. Such commands can cause immediate failure leading to unplanned machine downtime, or may compromise the machine’s lifetime in the longer term. Keyboards and mice are also inherently less reliable than a touch screen, requiring frequent maintenance and periodic replacement.
