DLP Projectors

DLP stands for Digital Light Processing. It is a technology invented and developed by Texas Instruments and is an alternative projection technology to LCD projection.

At the heart of any DLP projector system is a DLP chip, containing many, many microscopic hinged mirrors. By turning each of these mirrors on and off and combining them with a colour wheel, through which light is passed, an image is formed and projected onto a screen.

Why should I use a DLP projector?

One of the characteristics of a DLP projector is the lack of a need for filters. This means that any projector using this technology is not subject to the need to regularly clean or change filters. This is particularly useful characteristic where the projector is being used heavily – such as in a classroom, or where the projector has been installed above head height – such in classrooms.

DLP projection is featured in all 3M short throw projectors

All 3M projectors which contain Vikuiti™ Short Throw Projection technology use the same DLP projector technology. This means that they combine the benefits of short throw projection with the benefit of low maintenance requirements. Find out more about our Vikuiti™ Short Throw Projectors.
