How Anti-fatigue surfacing works

People who stand for long periods on hard floors suffer from fatigue. This can be significantly reduced by Anti-fatigue surfaces.

How does fatigue affect the body?

Feet feel the strain of hard floors first, but it doesn’t stop there. The effects reach much further through the body. Leg, knee, back and neck problems are common. As muscles become tired and weary,  painful varicose veins can develop. Varicose veins can be due to restricted blood flow against gravity up through the legs. The pressure of a hard floor also extends up the backbone to the shoulders and neck, causing stiffness and tension.

Standing on a hard floor brings pain and discomfort to seven sensitive areas:

Antifatigue surfacing, such as 3M coiled web mats, effectively distributes loads at the shoe/flooring interface. This eliminates areas of concentrated pressure, and reduces average pressures. By reducing pressure levels, discomfort and associated conditions can be avoided. You can stand on Antifatigue surfaces all day without developing the discomfort caused by standing on hard floors.
