So what are our Assessment Centres really like? We thought you’d like to hear from those who’ve experienced them:
Experience of a recent Graduate recruit at Bracknell:
“Having completed an initial interview and satisfied relevant criteria, I was invited to attend a two-day assessment centre, with seven other candidates. Although this was initially very daunting, we were soon welcomed and introduced to each other by Human Resources and after an icebreaker, everyone regained their nerves.
“Once the assessment begins, there are a number of tasks to be completed by candidates, including psychometric testing, interviews, group tasks, and a presentation. Throughout the Assessment Centre the candidates are observed. At first this felt a little unsettling, but by the end I scarcely noticed.
“We met members of staff from both Human Resources and the department to which we’d applied. Interviews were structured and conducted with senior members of staff, proving that 3M take graduate recruitment very seriously. These involved looking at specific behaviours to determine if the job is right for you.
“Previous graduates were present at the assessment centre, with time to ask questions. On the evening of the first day we also went out socially with them, enabling candidates to relax a little before the second day.
“The process is fairly demanding, but it is a rewarding experience and feedback is given rapidly after the assessment centre. If you are one of the successful candidates it makes it all the more worthwhile!”
