Linking all the elements of fixed braces
Braces are fastened with a special adhesive to the tooth surface for a lasting fit. Its horizontally running slot is used as a device for holding the archwire. Braces also possess small wingtips or hooks which the archwire is attached to using ligatures.
Ceramic braces such as Clarity™ Metal-Reinforced Ceramic Braces from 3M Unitek have the special advantage that they are transparent and so much less noticeable than metal braces. A further plus: Compared to similar models, Clarity™ Ceramic Braces do not discolour because their material does not absorb any food dyes.
Clarity™ SL Braces
Self-ligating braces such as Clarity™ SL Self-Ligating Appliance System from 3M Unitek, hold the archwire by a clip mechanism. The use of ligatures (small rubber rings or thin wires which fasten the arch to the bracket) as used in traditional braces is dispensed with. Time in the orthodontist's chair is also minimized because the arches are easier to change using the clip system.
Compared to visible braces, lingual braces are not attached to the front of the tooth, but to the back side. With the Incognito™ Orthodonic Braces 3M Unitek provides lingual braces made from a gold alloy which are prepared individually for your child's teeth and are invisible from the outside.
