Hygiene the Easy Way

Your child's braces do not have to complicate their dental hygiene, but it does change it. The key facts on ideal oral hygiene using fixed braces follow below:

Dental floss is always perfectly suited to removing food particles and plaque from interdental spaces. It's not that easy with fixed braces. Threading normal dental floss under the wires can prove difficult. It is easier to use dental floss with a reinforced end. Once the dental floss is threaded under the wire of the braces, it can be slid upwards and downwards along the tooth surface. Make sure your child is not applying too much pressure to the arch wire while flossing. Then each area around the rubber ligature should be brushed.

Still unsure? The orthodontist will be glad to show your child how to properly use dental floss with brackets.

Little tip:

Alternatively, interdental brushes are also eminently suitable for tooth brushing between braces and arches.
