Marking and Locating for FTTx projects

Marking and Locating for FTTx projects

In outside plant it is critical to know the exact location of all underground (subterranean) networks. This is especially true for fibre optic networks where there is no metallic element in the cable. Marking the network will save time and effort and costly mistakes on maintenance, re-entry and new installations.

3M Telecommunications offers an advanced technology product portfolio for electronically marking the underground network. With 3M EMS and Locators it is possible to map the FTTX network and trace it precisely.

3M Electronic Marker System (EMS)
1432, 1401-XR, 1411-XR, 1255, 1250

With our Full-Range, Mini, Ball and Near-Surface Markers, there is a marker to meet every need. A four-inch disc marker is also available for marking handholds. It easily attaches to lids or covers over flush-mounted facilities. Markers are passive antennas with no internal power source to run down. Their water-resistant, polyethylene shells are impervious to minerals, chemicals and the temperature extremes normally found underground. There is no guesswork with the electronic marker system. 3M locators operate even in the presence of metal conduit or pipe, metallic conductors, fences, AC power lines and electronic markers of other utilities. All EMS markers are colour-coded to APWA standards for visual reference and each utility has its own specific frequency. EMS signals provide positive identification of each utility, thus reducing the risk of accidentally locating and excavating other buried facilities.

1400 Series Electronic Marker System, iD Ball Markers
1421-XR, 1422-XR, 1423-XR, 1424-XR, 1425-XR, 1427-XR, 1428-XR

These ID markers come pre-programmed with a unique identification number. This number is also attached to the marker on a removable bar-coded tag, which can be peeled off and attached to facility maps for future reference.

The ID markers can also be programmed to include customer specific information such as facility data, hazard levels, type of application, placement date and other important details.

This information is programmed and locked by the user via the 3M™ Dynatel™ 1420 or 2200M-iD Series Locator.

3M Dynatel™ 2250ME/ME-iD / 2273ME/ME-iD Cable/Pipe/Fault Locators
The 3M™ Dynatel™ 2250M-iD/2273M-iD Cable/Pipe/Fault Locators are designed with all of the functionality of previous Dynatel™ models, and iD versions have the enhanced capability to read and write user information into the new 3M™ EMS 1400 Series iD Ball Markers. Information such as a pre-programmed identification number, facility data, application type, placement date and other details can all be read, stored and downloaded to your PC for enhanced resource management with this revolutionary equipment. The Dynatel™ 2250M-iD/2273M-iD Cable/Pipe/Fault Locators will also search for two different types of utility markers simultaneously.

3M Dynatel™ 1420-iD Series Locators (1420E-iD)
3M™ Dynatel™ 1420/1420E-iD Electronic Marker System (EMS) Marker Locators are microprocessor-based systems that incorporate advanced digital signal processing techniques to quickly and efficiently locate underground facilities - even years after construction or maintenance.

Designed to be more accurate, faster and more integrated than ever before, the 3M Dynatel™ EMS iD Marker Locators allow you to accurately and easily:

  • Locate, read and write to ID markers
  • Pin-point the exact depth and location of all existing models of properly installed underground passive EMS markers
  • Direct depth reading of ID markers
  • Locate two different marker frequencies simultaneously
