Flexible Splitter Extension

3M Telecommunications presents further integrated 3M™ Quante™ ID 3000™ splitter blocks. In addition to the ADSL ISDN & POTS combi splitters, pure POTS service is now also supported. The basic modular concept continues to enable individual fault localisation on telephone and data lines.

ADSL technology (Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line) enables subscribers to use an existing copper wire pair to download data from the Internet, or to transmit data, parallel to a telephone call. Moreover, ADSL provides a much wider bandwidth for Internet access than, for instance, ISDN. As in the past, telephone calls continue to be transmitted in the low-frequency range, while the hitherto unused high-frequency range of the same line is now used for the Internet data stream. Frequency-related separation and union of the two signals is handled by a so-called splitter.

The 3M splitter blocks are used in central equipment rooms where they unite the signals in the main distributor under due consideration of the given cabling guidelines. Integration of the splitter into the main distributor ensures that urgently necessary testing capabilities can be applied to all connections, be they DSLAM or subscribers.

Modular design allows full cabling between the usually remote DSLAM and the main distributor already during first-time installation. The Quante ID 3000 splitter blocks can be upgraded at any time to match an increasing number of subscribers and DSLAM expansions.

Through-switching modules also permit the use of the initially installed cabling for SDSL (Symmetrical Digital Subscriber Line). The filters of Quante ID 3000 POTS splitter blocks can be adapted to network infrastructures operated exclusively with POTS services so that further important channels in the low-frequency range can be used for DSL signal transmission.
