A desire to win was not the motivation for starting a cycling team. But with 25 podium finishes in the first season, we can certainly say there have also been successes.
For 3M, however, the focus is on introducing and testing the company's innovative products - which is working out pretty well too. We started with the 3M™ Visual Attention System™ to ensure the vehicles and the outfit were designed properly. Reflective materials on clothing quickly followed. In total, ten 3M products are being used.
The cyclists' favourite is the 3M™ Cavilon™ Barrier Film. This film creates a protective layer on the skin (particularly) in the seating area which prevents irritation and sores. In recent months, the Team3M cyclists have been "test riding" the protection offered by the Cavilon™ Cream and Spray.
Thomas Vanhaecke: "I've been using the Cavilon barrier film for a few weeks now and the problems on my bum have disappeared. I use the spray for a couple of days until the irritation goes away. If I feel the pain coming back, I just use the spray once before training and I can cycle again, free of irritation!" It goes without saying that the product does not contain any substances which are prohibited in cycle races. Thomas also recommended the spray to a professional cyclist who complained of seating area problems, leading to yet more enthusiastic reactions.
Team3M cyclist Michael Vingerling has had similar experiences: "It works really well. Personally, I prefer the cream to the spray. You can apply it exactly where you need it. Not only on your bum, but also on your chamois."
