David Philips, Directeur Sportif for Team3M, reviews Paris- Camembert of Wednesday April 16th 2014.
David Philips: ‘I had discussed with the riders to start the race easy the first 125km. From experience I know that in this race the hard part always begins at the last 80km.’
After a while a few riders drove off, which gave them the advantage to have a 4 minutes lead.
Europcar, Fdj, Cofidis and AG2R took over control of the race, followed by Team3M.
After 70 km FDJ took over control and started to shred the peloton, and all the riders of Team3M drove off with them.
About 50 riders were separated but nobody wanted to take the initiative.
Moments later, everything came together again.
On the local round the tough race began for real.
Cofidis took control again and with climbs up to 16% the peloton shredded again.
Team3M was not that lucky because our riders had 5 flat tires and in order to be still in the race, they had to chase every time.
Tim, Jaap and Jens were the unfortunate victims.
The whole team worked hard to Gerry in front of the peloton.
In the finale, Gerry came really in front after a very hard race.
24 riders remained and they all sprinted to victory where Gerry became 7th. A great accomplishment!
But this 7th place is thanks to the whole team, including Dylan who got drinks for the whole team on the road...
