In January 2014, mutliple packages of 22 premium tier competitor earmuffs were procured in the US or Europe through regular commercial means. The products were tested as compared to the 3M™PELTOR™X Series Line of earmuffs. The specific competitor products used in this study were:

Howard Leight Leighting ® L1, LH1, L2, L2H, L3, LH3

Howard Leight Thunder ®T1, T1H, T2, T2H, T3, T3H Howard Leight Clarity ®C1, C2, C3

MSA left/RIGHT® LOW, MEDIUM, MEDIUM cap mounted®, HIGH, HIGH cap mounted® MOLDEX M1, M

Largest Range of protection:

3M™PELTOR™X Series Earmuffs have the largest NRR/SNR range of the competitive over-the-head earmuff product lines tested. NRR/SNR values are based on packaging of competitor products (MSA left/Right, Howard Leight Clarity, Howard Leighting, Howard Leight Thunder, Moldex M2/M2).

Highest Attenuation on the Market:

The 3M™PELTOR™ X5 is currently the highest NRR/SNR earmuff on the market in both over-the head & hard hat attached versions. NRR/SNR values are based on packaging of competitor products (Thunder T3,Leighting L3, L3H, M1, MSA left/RIGHT high).

Highest Protection for Earcup Depth:

3M™PELTOR™X1 and X4 each have the highest ratio of 'NRR/SNR to earcup depth' of any of the competitive earmuffs tested with NRR 22dB or greater. NRR/SNR values are based on packaging of competitor products (as of May 2014).

More Consistent Headband Force:

3M™PELTOR™X Series earmuffs have the most consistent headband force over an 8 hour, 5 day period as compared to other competitive over - the- head electrically insulated or plastic earmuffs tested. Earmuffs were placed on a test fixture to measure a headband force for 8 hours, allowed to recover 16 hours, and then tested again for 8 hours over a 5 day time period.
