Rotary printing - Straight Line Flying Splice

3M pioneered the development of the thin straight flying splice tape technology to enable reliable splicing of paper and film webs during the printing process without stopping the press and without the use of festoon rollers.

The adhesives used are designed for immediate adhesion to a wide variety of substrates, and are built to withstand the web tensions commonly encountered during the printing process. The splice is printable and thin, to enable easy passage through the press with minimal risk to printing blanket contamination and damage.

3M "Silver Splice" R9990 flying splice tape is equipped with a thin Aluminum sensor strip within the tape construction, thereby eliminating the need for a splice detector sensor label.

Stationery – Repulpable tape

3M Repulpable tapes are designed to meet the splicing needs of all production stages of the paper making process - from the rereeler to the supercalendar- from the coater to the slitter and sheeter.

The adhesives incorporated in 3M repulpable tapes afford immediate adhesion to a wide variety of substrates, (including paper webs made from recycled fibers, tissues etc.).

3M R9996, a splittable tape designed for straight line flying splices on the coater, has both high temperature resistance and high shear, while the 3M 9994 supercalendar tape, also a splittable construction, is designed to withstand the high pressures and temperatures encountered in supercalendars which smooth the paper surface in the finishing process
