Tegaderm I.V. Advanced

The 3M™ Tegaderm™ I.V. Advanced Securement Dressings offers advanced securement with its clever design, new comfort adhesive technology and the tried and trusted Tegaderm film. Its stabilisation border, deep force-shifting notch and sterile tape strips provide a strong seal around catheters and other devices such as tubings. The deep notch shifts the pull force from the dressing's edges to its centre, then across the dressing. It enlists the entire dressing in securing the catheter thus decreasing the risk of dislodgements and fall outs. The new comfort adhesive technology offers strength in application but is gentle on removal.

Innovative Comfort Adhesive Technology

Two innovative adhesives provide excellent hold, even under moist skin conditions. The firmer, patterned adhesive secures and protects the catheter and allows efficient evaporation of the moisture from the skin. A complementary "full surface" adhesive along the stabilisation border provides further security. Both adhesives remain gentle to the skin and release comfortably upon removal.

• Can I use 3M™ Cavilon™ No Sting Barrier Film together with 3M™ Tegaderm™ I.V. Advanced Dressings?
  • Yes. Cavilon No Sting Barrier Film is compatible with Tegaderm I.V. Advanced Dressing. Cavilon No Sting Barrier Film swabs may be used to prevent skin trauma on removal of a dressing. It should be carefully applied to the skin, BUT avoiding the area immediately surrounding the insertion site. Cavilon No Sting Barrier Film foam applicators are recommended for I.V. sites.
• How can I further protect patients with sensitive skin?
  • 1. Always allow preps to dry before applying the dressing.
  • 2. Consider the use of a barrier film such as 3M™ Cavilon™ No Sting Barrier Film.
  • 3. The use of optimal removal technique (low and slow or stretch and release technique) will help to reduce discomfort and skin stripping.
• What is a pressure sensitive adhesive?
  • When applying the dressing with firm pressure the heat and pressure ensures the adhesive flows into the irregularities of the skin surface. There is thus a greater surface of the dressing adhering to the skin and therefore a much better securement. Better securement decreases risk of dislodgement.

• Can 3M™ Tegaderm™ I.V. Advanced Securement Dressings be used for diaphoretic patients?
  • Moisture pooling can occur under a dressing when a patient suffer from diaphoretic episodes or under hot and humid climatic conditions. In these circumstances it can sometimes be difficult for moisture to evaporate fast enough. The new Comfort Adhesive Technology ensures moisture evaporates efficiently and quickly. The transparent window of Tegaderm I.V. advanced securement dressings has been tested successfully when simulating these diaphoretic episodes.
• Can I get access to the hub without removing the dressing?
  • Clinicians have asked for the opportunity to get access to the hub without removing the dressing. The Tegaderm I.V. advanced securement dressing now features a special coating which allows for the removal of the stabilisation strips without removing the dressing and causing discomfort to the patient.

• How is this dressing comfortable for the patient?
  • The Tegaderm film is conformable thus flexing with the movements of the patient. The dressing is designed with soft cloth border and deep notch, suitable for bulky, multi-lumen catheters, to reduce tension on the dressing, sutures and patient skin. The adhesive is gentle and hypoallergenic.

Removal force compared to that of standard transparent film dressing and tape

3M™ Tegaderm™ I.V. Advanced Securement Dressing 1685 plus tape strips can withstand a pull force greater than two times that of a standard transparent film dressing plus tape strips.* The measure of failure in this test was when the P.I.C.C. catheter moved one centimetre. Tegaderm I.V. dressing 1685 handled over twice the removal force when immediately placed on skin. The dressing’s comfort adhesive technology increases adherence to the skin over the first 24 hours of application, further enhancing securement.

Clinicians’ comparative performance ratings
