When to use 3M Bair Paws System

3M Bair Paws® System

When to Use the 3M Bair Paws System

Only the 3M Bair Paws system offers comfort and clinical warming options throughout the perioperative period – in one convenient product.

Pre-Op – Prewarming patients with the 3M Bair Paws system prior to surgery can reduce core temperature drop during procedures up to one hour in duration by “banking” heat, or adding to the total heat content of the body.

OR – When patients arrive in the OR wearing the 3M Bair Paws gown, the surgical team has immediate access to a convenient, ready-to-use warming option.

PACU – In Post-Op settings, the 3M Bair Paws system can provide either clinical or comfort warming.

Beginning patient warming before surgery just makes sense – for patients and clinicians alike.

Beginning patient warming before surgery just makes sense – for patients and clinicians alike.

Prewarming with the Bair Paws system combined with intraoperative forced-air warming also prevents unintended hypothermia for procedures lasting more than one hour.

The Bair Paws system also addresses two key pre-op patient concerns – feeling cold and being “exposed” by traditional cotton gowns. In addition, warm patients mean your staff makes fewer trips to the blanket warmer and can spend more time on other patient-care matters.

OR

Warming

When patients arrive in the OR wearing the 3M Bair Paws® warming gown, the surgical team has immediate access to a convenient, ready-to-use warming option. Clinical warming capabilities may be accessed through the gown’s lower clinical hose port—ideal for head, neck or upper body procedures—or the shoulder hose port for procedures involving the lower extremities.

These flexible positioning options make clinician access simple by eliminating the need to reposition the gown. To clinically warm during surgery, just connect one of the gown’s clinical hose ports to a 3M Bair Hugger® 500 or 700 series warming unit. Bair Hugger warming units deliver clinically effective patient warming at safe air temperatures – and they are already available in most ORs.

PACU

Warming

Shivering or feeling cold after surgery are common patient complaints. Warming is readily available by simply attaching the 3M Bair Paws® warming unit to the gown’s lower hose port. When patients awake from anesthesia you can provide patients with the unit’s hand-held controller, and they can adjust the temperature of the air flowing through the gown to a comfortable level. Patients are now in control of their own comfort.

Patient-friendly post-operative clinical warming is available by connecting the 3M Bair Hugger® warming unit to the gown’s lower clinical hose port. The gown’s shoulder hose port may also be utilized for clinical warming in PACU.
