CUNO’s origins go back almost 100 years to the foundation of the company by Charles Cuno in the United States in 1912. Manufacture then was primarily geared towards the emerging automotive market but the company grew and developed new filtration products such as engine and hydraulic metal filters.
Filtration and separation was the primary focus during the 1960s before CUNO became part of Commercial Intertech in 1986 and, in September 1996, a publicly listed company (NASDAQ: CUNO).
On August 1, 2005, CUNO was acquired by 3M to combine its separation and filtration experience with the advanced materials innovation of 3M and enter a new era of solutions delivery to customers worldwide.
3M CUNO operates eight manufacturing facilities – in the United States, Europe, Japan, Brazil and Australia – and has sales offices throughout the world serving a $3 billion dollar market which is currently growing at a rate of seven to eight percent annually.
