Tab Rebuild


Preparation is key

Step 1

Apply 3M™ VHB™ Surface Cleaner or 3M™ General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner 08984 using 3M™ Professional Panel Wipe 34567 to clean the area. Allow to dry completely.

Step 2

Use 3M™ Roloc™ Disc P80 to smooth rough edges.

 
increase the strength of the repair

Step 3

Drill several holes of 3-6mm in diameter in the remaining part of the tab to increase the strength of the repair.

Coat tab area in 3M™ Polyolefin Adhesion Promoter

Step 4

Coat tab area in 3M™ Polyolefin Adhesion Promoter 05917 and leave to dry for 10 minutes.

 
Apply 3M™ Superfast Plastic Adhesive

Step 5

Cut 3M™ Contour Sheet 04903 to about 2.5 times the size of the tab to be repaired. Apply 3M™ Superfast Plastic Adhesive 55045 with 3M™ Applicator 08190 using the Contour Sheet as support.

Step 6

Immediately fold 3M™ Contour Sheet 04903 over to cover both sides of the repair. Hold in place for 1 minute then peel 3M™ Contour Sheet 04903 away.

Step 7

After 5 minutes shape tab using 3M™ Roloc™ Disc P80/P180 and create a new fixing point to restore original appearance.

3M™ Superfast Plastic Adhesive 55045 can be painted

Step 8

If necessary, 3M™ Superfast Plastic Adhesive 55045 can be painted using the usual paint process for plastic parts or specific bumper paint in spray.
