Turbocharger Hose

Turbochargers are used to boost the power of a car by increasing the air density entering the engine.

Turbochargers are getting more and more important as they allow an increase of power despite the downsizing of engines. Accordingly, the use of turbocharged engines in recent years has grown parallel to the continuously increasing performance requirements. Higher temperatures – above 200°C at which conventional elastomers are collapsing, more aggressive fuels and engine oils influence the selection of adequate raw materials.

State-of-the-art construction designs require very good processability, mainly in co-extrusion and good bonding properties. Especially the excellent bonding to silicones is crucial for reliable performance of the turbocharger over the lifetime of the vehicle. 3M™ Dyneon™ Fluoroelastomers have been designed for this challenge and offer outstanding bonding properties accompanied by impressive resistance towards fuels, engine oils and elevated temperatures.

Fuel Line / Fuel Hose

Fuel line hoses are typically build of multilayer structures, which contain a fluoropolymer (fluoroelastomer or THV) as inner layer and permeation barrier material for emission reduction.

The requirements for fuel hoses (fuel line hoses and filler neck hoses) are versatile:
Low permeation rate, high flexibility, extreme resistance against fuels and biofuels, good bonding properties for multi layer hose structures, long durability and finally good low temperature flexibility. As the regulations around the world continue to become more stringent, fuel emission standards and permeation resistance become increasingly important.

3M™ Dyneon™ Fluoropolymers are widely used in fuel line hose applications because of their excellent permeation and chemical resistance. Even at higher temperatures and longer exposure to alternative fuels (FAME / RME) or to gasoline with an increasing ethanol or methanol share they perform excellently.

Chemical Hose

Hoses made from 3M™ Dyneon™ Fluoropolymers are widely used in the chemical and associated industries. Besides the well known chemical/corrosion resistance and broad temperature ranges common in these industrial environments, additional requirements could be non-stick properties or sanitary-, FDA- , pharmaceutical- or similar approvals. The wide range of 3M™ Dyneon™ Fluoropolymers provides for all these requirements with the best fit material.

Hydraulic System

In general industry, hydraulic hose solutions based on 3M™ Dyneon™ PTFE are selected for use in material handling equipment and mechanical engineering systems where petroleum-, synthetic- or water based hydraulic fluids are applied. 3M™ Dyneon™ PTFE inner layer hose constructions are used when excellent temperature-, chemical and permeation resistance at elevated pressure levels are required. In addition, the non-stick surface behaviour of 3M™ Dyneon™ PTFE supports the effective use by avoiding sedimentation on the hose surface resulting in long lasting very high flow rates.
