Air Intake Manifold Gasket

The purpose of the air intake manifold in internal combustion engines is to draw and funnel the air to the engine. The main purpose of the air intake manifold gasket is to seal the gap between the manifold and the cylinder head.

It is the task of the gasket to seal the system despite the constantly changing system pressure and increasing temperature in the engine compartments. A failure of the part would lead to higher emissions coupled with poorer fuel economy and reduced engine performance.

3M™ Dyneon™ Fluoroelastomers play an important role in ensuring that the gasket will do the job. Emissions are reduced and fuel economy is up to today‘s requirements.

Turbo Charger Quad Seal

Turbochargers are used to boost the power of a car by increasing the air density entering the engine.

Turbochargers are getting more & more important as they allow increase of power inspite of the downsizing of engines. Accordingly the growing use of turbo-charged engines in the recent years has gone in parallel with continuously increasing performance requirements. Higher temperatures – above 200 °C at which conventional elastomers are desintegrating, more aggressive fuels and engine oils influence the selection of adequate raw materials.

Quad Seals provide the sealing function of the turbo charger hose connectors to the turbo charger and the intercooler or intake manifold.

Sealant

Expanded sealants made of PTFE with a microfibrillated internal structure for excellent stability are often used in flange sealing applications. This structure turns ordinary PTFE into a dimensionally strong, creep-resistant gasket material. The joint sealant is soft and applicable to conform to worn or uneven surfaces. Melt adhesive strip holds the sealant in place for every assembly in the shop or field.

Bonded Seal

Sealing under high pressure - or even worse, in chemically or thermically extreme surroundings - is best achieved with a so-called bonded seal empowered by a fluoropolymer lip made from 3M™ Dyneon™ Fluoropolymers.

Flat Seal

In the general industry sector, flat static seals are used as standard solutions in many different flange applications. PTFE, PTFE Compounds or Fluoroelastomers are selected for use in extremely demanding environments. Excellent chemical resistance combined with a broad temperature range, low vapour permeability, inertness and long-life product durability have paved the way for fluoropolymers in the chemical and petrochemical industry as well as in food & beverage-, pharma- and other hygiene-applications.
