An old building on the island of Amager in Copenhagen has had its façade completely renovated by
use of 3M Controltac™ Series 180 film. It is the first time ever that film has been used in the creation
of a permanent, large-scale façade solution – the façade covers a total of 10,000 square metres, all of
which have been covered by the film.
The building, now known as The Barcode because of the characteristic, horizontal black and white
stripe pattern screen printed onto the film, is the property of real estate investment firm Topdanmark
Ejendom. The aim of the building’s resurrection as The Barcode was to make it more attractive to
potential new tenants.
The Barcode is an example of how innovative, architectural shaping and the development of new
solutions in materials can be combined. The 3M film solution provides architects all over the world
