Scotch-Weld™ 3550 B/A FST: an extrudable two-part low density void filler
Low density extrudable, room temperature curing, two part void filler Scotch-Weld™ 3550 B/A FST helps aircraft interior manufacturers to save labour production time on all type of sandwich structures and meets increasingly stringent FST regulations.
3M has launched the first low density, room temperature curing, two part void filler that offers the combination of extrudability, low density (typically 0.55 g/cc) and stand alone aircraft interior regulations fulfillment (flame retardancy, smoke density and toxic gas emission).
3M Scotch-Weld™ 3550 B/A FST can be used to locally reinforce honeycomb or for closing edges of sandwich panels. The room temperature curing low-density void filler is easily machinable and sandable already after 8 hours.
This two part void filler based on a halogen-free and antimonytrioxide-free FST system that meets FST requirements of the Aircraft Industry (Airbus ABD 0031 directive and the FAR 25.853 / JAR 25.853 standard) "stand alone". It passes FST requirements also in combination with sandwich panels.
Against a background of increasing cost pressures, rising quality demands ever-tightening safety regulations and weight decrease, this product is going to solve a lot of pressing problems of aircraft interior manufacturers. It saves manufacturing time and labor cost as it reduces further manufacturing steps for the structure. Through reduction of reactive material exposure, it can also contribute to an improvement in operator health and safety aspects during the manufacturing process. Scotch-Weld™ 3550 B/A FST is available in duo-pack cartridges as well as in bulk size for machine dispensing.
Typical applications for Scotch-Weld™ 3550 B/A FST include overhead stowage compartments, galley and lavatory structures as well as side and partition walls.
