3M offers a variety of solutions for your requirements in aircraft interior applications. Whether you need a solution fulfilling FAR/JAR 25.853 and ABD0031 requirements or you have problems with weight management in aircraft component manufacturing, we have a large portfolio of adhesives, tapes and void fillers addressing your problems and thus reducing costs.
We are committed to improve your processes by continuing to bring to market a variety of new products aligned to changing market requirements.
3M is a leading supplier of tapes and adhesives to the aerospace industry. With a broad range of products from structural two part paste adhesives to sprayable water based contact adhesives, 3M's advanced offer of products for applications in aircraft interiors is almost unequalled.
With some of our new high performance adhesives, we believe to have developed world’s first two part structural epoxy adhesive to meet aerospace fire smoke and toxicity (FST) standards (when tested standalone) without the need for additional treatment or surface coating. Thus we do not only offer compliance to the rigorous market requirements for burning behaviour of aircraft components but also simplify aircraft interior manufacturing processes.
We do not only offer adhesives fulfilling FST requirements but also a broad range of void fillers. This product group combines FST properties with very low density thus reducing weight in floor panels or any other interior component.
Our products have been vigorously tested to comply with requirements and specifications from all major aircraft or rotorcraft manufacturers.
In conjunction with increasing cost pressures, rising quality demands and the need to decrease weight in aircrafts, 3M offers a product group that is going to solve a lot of pressing problems of aircraft interior manufacturers.
The 3M family of Low Density Void Fillers is based on an epoxy resin technology with low density for room- , or high temperature curing solutions. Using 3M’s low density void fillers in all your interior applications might allow you to transport additional passengers and maximize your profit.
These products help to fill, close, model or reinforce honeycomb and sandwich constructions wherever it is needed supporting light weight design. Some void fillers additionally offer vibration dampening abilities but their main functions are moisture protection and edge reinforcement or local reinforcement for fastener fixations. They offer a resistance to high forces and temperatures thus protecting edges from damage. At the same time our void fillers resist moisture, fuel or oil working as a fluid barrier.
Additionally, they are featured with a resistance to fire for a certain time without releasing toxic gases or starting to fume. They do not shrink during curing and can be finished by sanding or milling and painted over.
3M void fillers can simply be applied manually or fully automatically.
3M has developed what it believes to be the world’s first two part structural epoxy adhesives to meet aerospace fire smoke and toxicity (FST) standards without the need for additional treatment. Based on a halogen and antimony free FST system, the adhesives are used for bonding of interior structures to meet flammability, smoke density and toxicity as well as heat release requirements according to FAR/JAR 25.853 and ABD0031 & AITM 2.0002A as defined by the US flight authorities, European flight authorities and Airbus.
The adhesives are set to substantially simplify many aircraft interior manufacturing tasks by allowing builders to complete assembly and FST compatibility operations in a single step.
The adhesives are room-temperature curing structural two-part epoxy paste systems. They are easy to apply without dripping and are ideal for a host of aerospace interior tasks, such as the honeycomb panel bonding, insert bonding, ditch and pot and metal to honeycomb bonding. At the same time they can be over painted using the same surface coatings as the panels without leaving unsightly shadows.
Compatible with most common aerospace interior substrates including aluminium honeycomb, polycarbonate, glass/phenolic panels, polyetherimide and polyphenylsulfone, the products have an excellent chemical and ageing resistance.
3M does not only offer paste adhesives and void fillers for aircraft interiors but also several tapes, contact adhesives, films and other products for all kind of interior bonding applications. Whatever your need is, it is worthwhile to check with us. We might have a solution to your problem.
