Aircraft Corrosion Protection

3M provides corrosion protection in several forms, enabling airline and helicopter manufacturers and airlines to ensure the long term durability of aircraft

3M have products for both aircraft and helicopter airframe manufacturing but also solutions for aircraft maintenance operations. However, All products have the same goal of reducing the development of corrosion and ultimately ensuring long term aircraft durability.

3M offers a wide range of structural bonding primer solutions containing a corrosion inhibiting system to ensure long term durability of the aero-structure.

Our product range is designed to be used in combination with the 3M structural film adhesive range but can also be used in combination with our other structural solutions such as paste adhesives.

3M have recently developed non-chromated corrosion inhibiting systems to be ready for a possible future chromates ban.

3M’s primers have been designed to Aerospace standard cure cycles from 120°C to 180°C mostly used in combination with aluminium and titanium.

The 3M product range of polyurethane protective films are used in a wide range of different applications in the aerospace industry such as erosion and impact protection, high performance temporary surface protection and liquid barrier for corrosion preventions.

The application of 3M polyurethane protective films as a liquid barrier in wet areas in civil aircrafts is mostly performed with the products 8663 and 8666. These products provide excellent impact and puncture resistance and for that reason provide excellent corrosion protection to the metallic structures underneath.

Today the 3M liquid barrier solutions are qualified for maintenance operation of the majority of civil aircraft platforms.
