The Littmann® Cardiology III™ Stethoscope is fitted with 3M™ Littmann® SnapTight, Soft-Sealing Eartips. Comfortable and durable, the eartips feature a treatment that increases surface lubricity to resist lint and dust adhesion. Littmann® Snap Tight, Soft-Sealing Eartips are available in small and large sizes, and black and gray versions. The Littmann® Cardiology III™ Stethoscope comes with an extra set of soft-sealing eartips and a pair of firm gray tips (also available in small and large).

All Littmann® Stethoscopes manufactured after 1994, including the Littmann® Cardiology III™ Stethoscope, have ribbed eartubes with a snap-tight fit into the eartips.

The headset is the metal part of the stethoscope onto which the tubing is fitted. The headset is made up of two eartubes, tension springs and the eartips. All Littmann® Stethoscope headsets are positioned at an anatomically correct angle, for a proper fit in your ear canals. To adjust the tension, pull the eartubes apart (to loosen) or cross them over (to tighten).

The tubing of all Littmann® Stethoscopes is made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The tubing does not contain natural rubber latex or dry natural rubber. The Littmann® Cardiology III™ Stethoscope has double lumen tubing—a cross-section reveals two openings.

Tunable Diaphragm
A traditional stethoscope consists of a bell and a diaphragm. Use the bell with light skin contact to hear low-frequency sounds. Use the diaphragm with firm skin contact to hear high-frequency sounds.

Littmann stethoscopes feature Tunable Diaphragm Technology. This enables you to alternate between the bell and diaphragm by applying pressure to the chestpiece. To hear high frequencies, press firmly.

The pediatric side of the chestpiece easily converts to a traditional bell by simply replacing the diaphragm with the nonchill bell sleeve included with the stethoscope.

Converted Traditional Bell

The stem connects the stethoscope tubing to the chestpiece. On the Littmann® Cardiology III™ Stethoscope, the stem is used to index, or open, the side of the chestpiece that you wish to use.

The chestpiece is the part of the stethoscope you place on the patient to hear sounds. All Littmann® Stethoscopes, including the 3M™ Littmann® Cardiology III™ Stethoscope, feature a Tunable Diaphragm on each side of the chestpiece. Use the larger side for adult patients. The smaller side is best for pediatric or thin patients, when maneuvering around bandages, and for carotid assessment.
